The Local Coordination Council of the Emergency Response Rooms in Rokro, Jebel Marra, Tura Administrative Unit in Central Darfur State, distributed shelter materials to 150 families as part of the first phase of a project targeting 200 displaced families and households affected by the fire that broke out at the Institutions Camp in Rokro, in addition to low-income families in the Barqo Federation.
The intervention comes in response to the humanitarian needs of families affected by the fire that broke out at the Institutions Camp in mid-April, resulting in significant losses and damage to the shelters and belongings of displaced families amid difficult humanitarian conditions.
Volunteer activist Ikram Mahmoud told Mashaweer that “the response was supported by the Longa–Jebel Marra Emergency Response Rooms Coordination Council to address the urgent need for shelter materials identified by the beneficiary families, particularly given their limited resources and the difficulty of securing basic necessities.”
She explained that “the distribution was carried out at the Golo Centre, in coordination between the Local Coordination Council of the Rokro Emergency Response Rooms, Tura Administrative Unit, and the grassroots emergency rooms of the Barqo Federation. Shelter materials were handed over to the targeted families as part of the first phase.”
Suleiman Al-Nour, a member of the Rokro Emergency Response Rooms Coordination Council, told Mashaweer that “although the shelter materials provided were limited, they help alleviate some of the burdens facing affected families and represent important support in securing shelter and basic necessities for stability.”
The Rokro Emergency Response Rooms Coordination Council, Tura Administrative Unit, expressed its appreciation to the Longa–Jebel Marra Emergency Response Rooms Coordination Council for its support to displaced and affected families and low-income communities, stressing the importance of continuing humanitarian interventions to address the growing needs in the area.
