Abdalla Hamdok, head of the Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces (Sumoud), has reaffirmed his commitment to the option of ending the war in Sudan.
He noted that “hope remains for achieving this goal,” amid ongoing efforts by anti-war forces to push for peace.
Speaking at a press conference following the conclusion of a meeting of civilian forces opposed to the war, Hamdok described the gathering as a major development, saying it had resulted in agreement on a document and roadmap for peace in Sudan as part of broader efforts to support the option of ending the war.
Anti-war forces, during meetings held on August 22 and 23 in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, announced their categorical rejection of the internal dialogue initiative proposed by the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Army Commander. They also agreed on a joint document serving as a roadmap for a comprehensive peace process based on three simultaneous tracks: the humanitarian track, including the opening of humanitarian corridors and the return of displaced people; a ceasefire; and a civilian dialogue addressing the root causes of the conflicts.
