The sixth meeting of the Case Management Working Group in North Kordofan State discussed strengthening protection services for children, women, girls, and families affected by displacement, amid growing humanitarian needs resulting from recent waves of displacement.
The meeting, held at the Social Security, Solidarity and Poverty Reduction Center in El Obeid, brought together protection partners as well as government institutions and national and international organizations working in child protection, including the State Council for Child Welfare and the Patient Aid Fund. The meeting was funded by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Participants reviewed monthly reports and activity implementation rates, interventions related to recent displacement waves, as well as gaps and challenges facing protection efforts and the need for joint coordination to reach children and families in displacement sites.
The meeting came amid conditions in which some displaced families are facing increasing challenges, including children who arrived at shelters with their families and others who became separated from their relatives, in addition to specific protection and safe-access needs among women and girls.
Ali Daw Al-Bait, an activist working at shelters in North Kordofan, told Mashaweer that the new waves of displacement have increased pressure on shelters and the services provided to children and families.
He noted that “protection needs require a continuous and organized response, particularly for children separated from their families and for women and girls.”
He called for stronger coordination among organizations working in protection and for expanding interventions to include shelters and areas receiving displaced people, ensuring that essential services reach the most vulnerable groups in a timely manner.
