The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that 168 families have been displaced, while 271 homes were destroyed or damaged by heavy rains and floods that struck Abu Karshola locality in South Kordofan State, southern Sudan.
In a statement, the organization said the rains and floods displaced families from around 10 villages in the area. Its field teams reported that 138 homes were completely destroyed, while another 133 sustained partial damage.
The organization said, “The displaced families have sought refuge in temporary shelters in open areas within the same locality.”
Sudan typically experiences heavy rainfall during the rainy season, which extends from June to October and often causes floods and flash floods in various parts of the country.
