Hamdok: Al-Burhan’s Call for Dialogue Is Designed to Legitimize the Coup Leader, Not End the War

Abdalla Hamdok, head of the civilian alliance of the Forces of the Revolution, “Somoud,” described what he called General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan’s proposed political dialogue as neither national nor credible.

In a written statement to The National, Hamdok said: “It is a unilateral process limited to areas under his control and designed to manufacture political legitimacy, not to end the war, address the humanitarian catastrophe, or alleviate the immense suffering of the Sudanese people.”

Hamdok added: “Sudan cannot be reunified through a dialogue that entrenches its division, nor can peace emerge from a process that paves the way for another military dictatorship to rule half of the country.”

He stressed that “a credible political process must begin with ending the war. It must be independent, inclusive, civilian-led, and national in scope, because Sudan’s future belongs to its people, not to the senior officers who are destroying it.”
