Training Volunteers to Implement Emergency Activities in Areas Hosting Displaced People

A training workshop organized by SOLID Organization concluded in El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, with the participation of 35 volunteers from the water management committees at the Unified Shelter and Khor Taqat camps. The workshop was part of emergency water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) assistance activities for populations affected by the conflict in the Kordofan region.

The workshop covered topics related to the work of water committees inside the camps, including the safe handling of water sources, reducing contamination risks, maintaining the cleanliness of water storage containers, monitoring service quality and reporting problems. It also addressed the safety and privacy of women and girls at water collection points.

SOLID Organization Director Saadia Siddiq told Mashaweer that “the success of the training was reflected in the level of engagement and respect throughout the sessions, as well as in the participants’ expressions of how much they benefited from the training and their readiness to transfer the knowledge they gained to their communities.”

Siddiq commended the facilitators, the staff working on the water and environmental sanitation project, and the organization’s water specialists.

She also praised the volunteers’ participation, emphasizing the important role water committees play in serving residents and supporting the work of humanitarian organizations inside the camps.

For his part, volunteer Sufian Issa told Mashaweer that the participants are committed to sharing what they learned during the training with their communities, raising awareness about the risks of water contamination, promoting the cleanliness of storage containers, and contributing to the provision of higher-quality and safer water services, while ensuring dignity and protection at water-use sites.
