Volunteers Provide Health Services to Sudanese Refugees in Chad

Volunteers continue to provide health and humanitarian services to Sudanese refugees and members of the host community in the Adré camps in eastern Chad through the For You initiative’s clinic, despite difficult conditions and numerous challenges. The clinic provides regular medical and support services through its various departments.

The clinic recorded 306 patient visits last week. Women accounted for 55.9 percent, men for 24.84 percent, and children for 19.3 percent of the total number of patients.

The period also saw an increase in the proportion of male patients compared with the previous week, while the proportion of children declined.

Speaking to Mashaweer, initiative member Zahra Abdullah said the clinic continues its work in line with its mission of improving access to healthcare for refugees and the host community and alleviating the suffering of those most in need.

Abdullah expressed regret that the emergency and short-stay unit has remained closed for more than five months after the loss of the building that housed the unit and the reduction in the space available to the clinic.

She stressed that “reopening the emergency unit has become an urgent necessity amid growing healthcare needs.”

She appealed to donors, philanthropists, and friends of the initiative to urgently contribute to the construction of a new emergency unit, particularly during the rainy season, which typically brings an increase in disease rates.

Meanwhile, Sudanese refugee Hawa Arabab told Mashaweer that “the clinic’s continued provision of services is extremely important for refugees, particularly families facing difficulties accessing healthcare services.”

She called for continued support for the initiative so that it can complete its health services and meet the needs of refugees and the host community.
