Medical Camps Support Displaced People in North Darfur

The Education Support Initiative in Alsireaf locality, Um Jarwa Administrative Unit in North Darfur State, implemented a package of emergency humanitarian interventions to support displaced people, vulnerable groups, and orphans, with support and partnership from the Tomorrow’s Stars Center for Development and Capacity Building.

The interventions included free medical camps providing healthcare services to beneficiaries, as well as psychosocial support sessions aimed at helping some individuals overcome the effects of difficult circumstances and regain hope. The initiative also distributed “dignity kits” to women and girls to meet their basic needs.

Salma Khater, a member of the initiative, told Mashaweer that “these interventions came in response to the growing needs of displaced families and the most vulnerable groups.”

She noted that “the initiative seeks to combine health and psychological support with social assistance.”

She added that “the continuation of such activities requires concerted efforts by local initiatives, organizations, and the community,” stressing the importance of expanding the response to reach more families and groups facing difficult humanitarian conditions.

For his part, displaced resident Mustafa Adam told Mashaweer that “providing medical services and psychosocial support is an important form of assistance for families facing difficulties accessing healthcare and basic services.”

He expressed hope that such initiatives would continue and expand to reach larger numbers of displaced people and families most in need.
