Volunteers implemented a hygiene awareness project and distributed hygiene supplies to children and families affected by displacement at the Kilometre 70 displacement camp in Northern State, as part of the “Afia” project implemented by NAS Active Organization with support from the Norwegian Refugee Council.
The project included interactive awareness sessions focusing on the importance of using safe water, personal hygiene, proper handwashing techniques, and preventing diseases associated with water, sanitation, and the environment. Hygiene supplies were also distributed to targeted children and families.
Dr. Al-Shafie Mohamed Al-Hassan, a volunteer physician at displacement camps in Northern State, told Mashaweer that “the active participation of beneficiaries reflected the importance of involving the community in awareness activities and using practical learning methods to promote healthy behaviors and create a safer and healthier environment.”
For his part, Al-Hadi Mahmoud, a displaced person at the Kilometre 70 camp, told Mashaweer that the awareness sessions helped families and children learn practical ways to prevent diseases associated with water and hygiene. He stressed the importance of continuing such activities inside the camp.
He added that “providing hygiene supplies represents important assistance to displaced families, particularly given the difficulty of obtaining some basic necessities.”
He called for “continued support and the expansion of awareness programs and health services to reach more families and children.”
