Investigation: Evidence Suggesting Possible Use of Chemical Weapons in Sudan

An investigation published by Euronews, based on a 32-page report prepared by a team led by former senior officials of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), has presented evidence suggesting the possible use of toxic chemical agents in Sudan. The report includes testimonies from eight Sudanese witnesses, as well as photographic and digital material concerning incidents in which toxic substances are suspected to have been used between 2024 and 2025.

One of the most prominent cases focuses on the Al-Jaili refinery north of Khartoum, which was under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) at the time.

Two witnesses said a military aircraft flew over the area before objects fell from the sky, followed by unusual odors and emissions. They reported that around 20 people experienced breathing difficulties and eye irritation.

Experts said the symptoms were consistent with possible exposure to a hazardous airborne chemical agent. However, they were unable to identify the substance or conclusively establish that a chemical weapon had been used, and called for an international investigation.
