The Emergency Room of the Fatabarno displacement camp in North Darfur State has issued an urgent humanitarian appeal to humanitarian organizations, donors, and national and international institutions, calling for immediate intervention to save thousands of families affected by drought and water shortages and to mitigate the worsening humanitarian crisis in Kutum locality.
The North Darfur Emergency Rooms Council said that “the crisis is threatening approximately 51,143 people, including 13,023 displaced and resident families in the locality, amid acute shortages of drinking water and food, deteriorating livelihoods, and growing humanitarian needs.”
Ahmed Abdel Salam, a member of the North Darfur Emergency Rooms Coordination Council, called on humanitarian actors to urgently provide drinking water, food, medicines and animal feed, rehabilitate water sources, and support affected families. He warned that “the continuation of the current situation could further exacerbate the crisis and increase the level of risks facing the population.”
Speaking to Mashawir, Abdel Salam said: “Urgent intervention has become essential to mitigate the effects of drought and water shortages and provide basic necessities to affected families, particularly as their ability to cope with deteriorating living conditions continues to decline.”
