The Darfur Victims Advocacy Organization and the Hope and Shelter for Refugees Organization said that “humanitarian and living conditions have deteriorated severely in the northern localities of West Kordofan State due to the failure of the agricultural season and drought, amid worsening security conditions and the expansion of the conflict.”
Drought and insufficient rainfall have damaged large areas of agricultural crops in West Kordofan, according to field accounts reported by the two organizations, with local estimates indicating that the damage has reached around 90 percent in some areas.
According to the organizations, food prices have risen sharply in the northern localities of West Kordofan State, amid difficulties and restrictions on transportation and severe shortages of goods in local markets.
In response to these conditions, the two organizations called on the United Nations, local, regional, and international humanitarian organizations, and donors to take urgent action to provide food, drinking water, healthcare services, and emergency nutritional assistance.
