Sudanese Civil Forces Delegation Led by Hamdok Meets UN Deputy Secretary-General and Calls for an End to the War

The delegation led by Dr. Abdalla Hamdok, former Sudanese Prime Minister, began its activities in New York today (Sunday) with a meeting with Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, at the UN headquarters in New York.
The meeting discussed developments in the war in Sudan and its catastrophic humanitarian consequences, as well as the need to intensify international efforts to immediately end the fighting, protect civilians, and ensure unhindered humanitarian access to all those in need.
The delegation emphasized “the importance of the United Nations playing an active role in unifying and coordinating international and regional efforts to end the war, and linking the humanitarian, security, and political tracks within an integrated process that addresses the root causes of the crisis.”
It stressed that “sustainable peace requires a Sudanese-led civilian political process leading to a democratic civilian transition, preserving Sudan’s unity and sovereignty, and responding to the aspirations of its people for freedom, peace, and justice.”
For her part, Ms. Amina Mohammed expressed her appreciation for the efforts of Sudanese civil forces seeking to end the war and responded positively to the delegation’s proposals on ways to achieve peace and address the humanitarian catastrophe in Sudan.
