Improving Health Services at Jebel Marra Displacement Shelter

The Central Darfur Emergency Rooms Coordination Council has completed a project to support water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services at the Jebel Marra Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Shelter, with the aim of improving living conditions and strengthening protection for the most vulnerable groups at the center.
Field engineer Sultan Ali told Mashawir that “the project primarily focuses on providing safe and clean water sources and improving sanitation conditions at the shelter, helping to reduce health risks and limit the spread of diseases associated with contaminated water and the environment.”
Meanwhile, Central Darfur community activist Al-Zahawi Al-Tahir told Mashawir that “the project was implemented through four main components, including securing sustainable supplies of clean water for daily use and improving sanitation services by rehabilitating toilets and installing doors to ensure privacy and safety for displaced people.”
He added that “the project also included installing lighting in the toilets to make them safer to use at night, particularly for women and children, as well as providing environmental sanitation equipment and spraying pumps to help control disease vectors.”
