U.S. State Department: Neither the Armed Forces, the RSF, nor Their Leaders Represent Sudan’s Legitimate Constitutional Government

The U.S. Department of State said in a statement that “President Trump is committed to ending the world’s worst humanitarian crisis: the war in Sudan.”

“Unfortunately, neither the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) nor the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have made serious commitments to an immediate ceasefire. Instead, they have intensified fighting and drone strikes that are killing civilians,” the statement added.

The statement explained: “We have repeatedly called on both sides to accept the proposed humanitarian truce, without preconditions, and to commit to an inclusive political dialogue leading to a transition to a civilian government. These are essential steps toward achieving lasting peace in Sudan.”

The statement said: “The United States and President Trump stand ready to work with any party that demonstrates a genuine commitment to achieving peace in Sudan. In the meantime, we will seek to increase the cost of continuing the conflict for all warring parties and the networks that fuel it.”

The statement further noted: “Neither the Sudanese Armed Forces nor the Rapid Support Forces, nor any of their leaders, represent a legitimate and constitutional government of Sudan. They rule solely through the force of arms, and the actions of each of the leaders of the warring factions render them unfit to govern the country. We seek to restore peace and return power to the Sudanese people.”

The statement also stressed that “the United States and President Trump are prepared to support a peace plan, and the Sudanese people are ready to engage in meaningful civilian dialogue. By working with committed partners, we can bring peace to Sudan.
