Displacement Coordination: 19 Million People Displaced in Sudan, Aid Remains Insufficient

The Sudan Displacement Coordination has warned of a worsening humanitarian situation for internally displaced people in several parts of the country, stating that the number of displaced people is no less than 19 million, amid shortages in international humanitarian assistance.

The Coordination said that “displaced people in Kordofan, Darfur, and Blue Nile are facing harsh conditions as the humanitarian crisis continues and it becomes increasingly difficult to meet basic needs.”

It added that “international assistance is insufficient to meet the needs of displaced people in Darfur and Kordofan, further increasing the pressure on millions of people affected by the conflict.”

Meanwhile, more than 5 million displaced people have chosen to return to their homes in Sudan despite the ongoing civil war and extremely difficult conditions, according to the United Nations.

The UN’s International Organization for Migration (IOM) said in a statement: “Many are returning to a country still grappling with conflict, where damaged homes, schools, and clinics are unable to meet people’s needs.” It added: “Without urgent support, families face the risk of being displaced again.”
