Death of 239 Children in El Fasher Due to Food and Medicine Shortages

By: Mashawir – Reports

The Sudan Doctors’ Network stated in a recent report that approximately 239 children have died in the city of El Fasher over the past six months due to severe shortages of food and medicine. The period has witnessed a sharp increase in hunger-related cases, compounded by a lack of essential supplies and the bombing of child nutrition warehouses in the city.

The statement expressed deep regret over the global silence regarding the plight of children in besieged Darfur, who have been trapped for more than a year amid a near-total absence of food and skyrocketing prices in El Fasher and the displacement camps in North Darfur State.

The network called for urgent intervention to save the remaining civilians who continue to endure a relentless siege and bombardment.

It stressed the need for regional and international organizations to pressure the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to accept and implement the ceasefire proposal put forth by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and to immediately open a humanitarian corridor to allow the entry of emergency aid, medical supplies, and to lift the siege that has been imposed on the city for over a year.
