Doctors Without Borders Warns of Rising Dengue Fever Cases in Khartoum

Reports – Mashawir

Doctors Without Borders has warned of a significant increase in dengue fever cases in Khartoum State, cautioning that the current health conditions may lead to a worsening crisis if urgent measures are not taken to curb the spread of the disease.

In a statement, the organization noted that the outbreak is thriving in conditions such as abandoned houses, blocked drainage systems, and water supply disruptions that force residents to store water in unsafe ways — all of which contribute to the breeding of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, the primary vector of the virus.

The organization explained that weak diagnostic capacity and the heavy strain on hospitals are hindering response efforts. It emphasized the urgent need to intensify mosquito-control campaigns, activate health awareness programs, and accelerate the establishment of specialized treatment centers to address the sharp increase in cases.

Doctors Without Borders called on all actors in the health sector — including local and international authorities as well as humanitarian organizations — to act immediately, warning that any delay in response could worsen the suffering and risk a large-scale spread of the disease.
