Sudanese Teachers’ Committee: “Taasis” step to hold Sudan secondary school exams is a tool to reinforce geographical and political division

Omdurman - Mashaweer

The Sudanese Teachers’ Committee warned today (Wednesday) of the danger of the parallel government formed by the Sudan Founding Alliance (Taasis) proceeding with secondary school certificate exams, as the multiplicity of decision-making centers in this matter indicates a de facto separation.

On Tuesday, the parallel government in areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces formed a technical committee to supervise this year’s secondary school certificate exams, one week after announcing the completion of technical, administrative, and security arrangements for the examinations.

In a statement, the Teachers’ Committee said it followed the decision of the de facto government in the city of Nyala regarding the formation of a supervisory committee for secondary school exams, which reinforces what we warned about regarding the danger of turning education into a tool to entrench geographical and political division.

The committee pointed out that the multiplicity of decision-making centers regarding the secondary school certificate exams, and linking them to areas of military control, practically opens the door to a divided educational reality and indicates an actual separation of the Sudanese state, even if not officially declared.

The Sudanese government announced its intention to hold secondary school certificate exams next April for students of this year and the previous year, marking the third examination cycle to be held since the outbreak of the war.
