UN Women revealed today, Wednesday, that most displaced families in the three Kordofan states have not received humanitarian aid over the past three months.
It reported that 91 percent of families in North Kordofan, 72 percent in South Kordofan, and 87 percent in West Kordofan did not receive aid, while most families who did receive assistance reported that it was insufficient to meet their needs.
The report was based on a qualitative survey that included 43 women-led organizations, in addition to a discussion group with female leaders and service providers from women-led organizations currently providing humanitarian support in all areas of Kordofan.
UN Women warned of the catastrophic consequences of food insecurity for women, as 51 percent of displaced families in South Kordofan and 35 percent in West Kordofan reported that one of their members had spent a full day and night without food during the four weeks preceding the survey.
It noted that women accounted for more than 85 percent of farmers working in rain-fed agriculture in Darfur and Kordofan before the outbreak of the war; however, the conflict has multiplied the structural barriers they face.
