University Professors’ Strike Paralyzes 35 Institutions in Sudan

Khartoum – Mashawir

University Professors Committee (LAJSU) announced the start of a comprehensive strike today (Sunday), noting that its success rate ranged between 95% and 100%, especially as it included 35 universities.

Professors at Shendi University and the Red Sea University shared photos of protest gatherings held in parallel with the strike at both institutions.

In a statement, the committee praised the unity and solidarity of university professors in carrying out the strike, reaffirming their commitment to the approval of a new salary structure and regulations governing university professors’ service conditions.

The committee also pointed out some observations, including that certain universities had scheduled exams before the month of Ramadan and had requested professors to submit exam materials before the strike began.

The statement explained that, after professors refused to invigilate exams and adhered to the strike, some administrations resorted to alternative invigilators to conduct the exams, emphasizing that this does not constitute breaking the strike as long as professors did not participate.

The committee added that some universities are located in unsafe areas, while in others professors were prevented from taking photos by the police. In addition, some universities continue academic activities online, making it difficult to document protest gatherings, meaning the strike was not fully monitored across all institutions.

The committee called on all professors across universities to continue the strike with the same determination, considering it the only way to achieve their demands.
