Hundreds of families in the administrative unit of Sarqandil, located about 200 kilometers northeast of Al-Malha in North Darfur State, western Sudan, are facing a severe water crisis.
Displaced people and residents in Sarqandil, as well as in the areas of Ain Basarwa, Taqru, and Anjuru, said they are suffering from an acute shortage of water that threatens their lives and the lives of their livestock, especially with the approach of the summer season.
In this context, the “Sarqandil Emergency Rooms” confirmed that the area is experiencing a serious drinking water crisis due to the scarcity of water sources and the influx of hundreds of displaced families as a result of the war. The region also relies mainly on water harvesting projects.
They called on organizations working in the water sector to urgently intervene and provide sufficient water sources for the Sarqandil unit, in order to save the lives of displaced people, host communities, and their livestock from collapse.
