UK Minister for Development Congratulates Sudanese Journalists’ Syndicate and Reaffirms UK Solidarity with Sudanese Journalists

London – Mashawir

UK Minister of State for International Development Kirsty McNeill has reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s solidarity with Sudanese journalists and its full support for them during a meeting with Tahir Al-Mu’tasim, Secretary of Foreign Relations of the Sudanese Journalists’ Syndicate, on the sidelines of an event held in London last Wednesday, 28 October.

The minister affirmed that “the United Kingdom will continue to support Sudanese journalists”, stressing its condemnation of attacks targeting journalists and civil society organisations, given their role in exposing violations, particularly amid the ongoing war that has engulfed the country since April 2023.

The minister also congratulated the Sudanese Journalists’ Syndicate on securing membership in the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and winning the 2026 UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize.

For his part, the syndicate’s Secretary of Foreign Relations expressed his appreciation for the United Kingdom’s efforts and supportive positions towards Sudanese journalists and their syndicate, stressing the syndicate’s aspiration to see this support continue and be strengthened in the coming period.
