Teachers’ Committee Announces Summoning of Two Members Over Strike

Khartoum – Mashawir

The Sudanese Teachers’ Committee announced on Thursday that two of its members in Ombada Locality, Khartoum State, had been summoned by the Security Cell, as the teachers’ strike continued into its second day of the third week.

According to the committee, the security escalation comes amid the ongoing teachers’ strike in Khartoum State, which has entered its third week. The strike is being staged in protest against teachers’ deteriorating professional and living conditions, with demands for improved terms of service and a response to trade union demands.

In a statement, the committee said that the Security Cell had summoned two teachers, Al-Nayer Al-Turaifi Hamad Al-Nil and Mohamed Adam, over their participation in trade union activities related to the teachers’ strike.

The committee explained that Mohamed Adam is suffering from a fracture in one of his legs, which has left him bedridden for more than a month. It added that, despite his health condition, he was taken to the headquarters of the Security and Intelligence Service in Ombada Locality on allegations of inciting the strike.

The committee accused the authorities of resorting to summonses and security measures instead of addressing the catastrophic conditions facing the education sector and teachers.

It considered these measures an attempt to restrict trade union activities and exert pressure on the course of the strike.
