Disruption of Medical Aid Threatens Lives of Chronic Disease Patients in Sudanese Displacement Camps

Follow-ups – Mashawir

The “Save El Geneina Initiative” has announced the suspension of chronic disease medication distribution to patients at the “Adré” camp, which hosts tens of thousands of displaced people fleeing from Darfur.

In a statement, the initiative said this dire situation was forced by funding constraints, leaving chronic disease patients without alternatives and further deepening their suffering.

Over the past two years of ongoing war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), around 600,000 Sudanese refugees have crossed into Chad, while displacement continues amid ongoing violence, military operations, and lack of basic services.

The sharp decline in international humanitarian aid funding has worsened the crisis for more than 3 million people in Darfur, as irregular food supplies, rising prices, and market disruptions persist.

In a significant development, the Chadian government has agreed to host Sudan’s high school certificate exams for refugee students this year. This marks a reversal from last year, when the request was rejected due to security and logistical concerns.

Chad’s approval was seen as a goodwill gesture amid mutual accusations between Khartoum and N’Djamena, including Sudanese government claims that Chad supports rebel factions.

Darfur Regional Governor Minni Arko Minawi welcomed the decision in a post on his official account on platform X, expressing gratitude to the Chadian government for what he described as a major humanitarian gesture.
