Al-Burhan Agrees to a One-Week Humanitarian Truce in El Fasher

Follow-ups – Mashawir

Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council Chairman, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has agreed to a one-week humanitarian truce in the city of El Fasher, in support of United Nations efforts and to facilitate the delivery of aid to thousands of besieged Sudanese citizens. The truce comes in response to an appeal by UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

This development followed a phone call on Friday between al-Burhan and Guterres, during which the UN Secretary-General welcomed the appointment of Dr. Kamal Idris as Sudan’s new Prime Minister and affirmed the UN’s support for this step as part of completing the civilian transition.

Guterres also emphasized the importance of implementing the relevant Security Council resolutions.

During the call, al-Burhan reiterated his commitment to forming a government composed of independent figures, fully empowered to handle the responsibilities of the executive branch.
