UN Security Council Calls for Political Settlements to the Conflict in Sudan

Follow-ups – Mashawir

The United Nations Security Council has urged its 193 member states to use all possible means to settle disputes through peaceful means.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated that this has become “more urgent than ever,” citing “scenes of horror in Gaza and the conflicts in Ukraine, Sudan, Haiti, and Myanmar.”

The resolution, drafted by Pakistan, was unanimously adopted by the 15-member council.

In his call to strengthen efforts toward achieving global peace, Guterres told the council:

> “We are witnessing across the world a complete disregard, if not outright violations, of international law and the UN Charter.

He added that this is happening amid widening geopolitical divisions and escalating conflicts, particularly in Gaza, where hunger is knocking on every door while Israel continues to deny the UN the space and security needed to deliver aid and save Palestinian lives.

Guterres stressed that “hunger and displacement have reached record levels in global conflicts, and security is increasingly out of reach due to terrorism, violent extremism, and transnational crime.”
