Cholera Outbreak in Darfur Spirals Out of Control as Death Toll Rises

A recent update from the General Coordination for Displaced Persons and Refugees in Darfur has revealed the alarming and rapid spread of the cholera outbreak across the region. The total number of cumulative daily cases has now surpassed 4,113, with 197 deaths, particularly concentrated in the camps of Tawila, Jebel Marra, and Nyala, which together recorded 3,150 cases, including 65 deaths. On Monday alone, 143 new cases were reported.
In a statement, the official spokesperson for the Coordination, Adam Regal, confirmed that the outbreak continues to spread into new areas across North Darfur, resulting in dozens of additional fatalities.
Meanwhile, the Emergency Room of Asalaya Locality in North Darfur issued an urgent appeal to the Ministry of Health and humanitarian and international organizations, following a sudden outbreak of cholera in the area over the past three days. More than 17 cases and 3 deaths have been recorded, amid a severe shortage of IV fluids and essential medicines in the locality.
