Thousands of Sudanese Students Abroad Defrauded by Fake School

Follow-ups – Mashawir

The Sudanese Teachers’ Committee has revealed that thousands of Sudanese pupils and students living abroad have been defrauded through an online education school it described as a major trap for looting and fraud.

In a press statement, the committee said that while this type of education has become an urgent necessity, the absence of a framework within the Federal Ministry of Education — in terms of philosophy, vision, laws, regulations, administration, and planning — has created fertile ground for opportunists to exploit this legal, regulatory, and administrative vacuum. As a result, parents and their children have been deceived, and the future of those who fall victim to such schemes has been jeopardized.

It added that one such example is the so-called “Medad Institute for E-Learning,” which has gained attention in recent months. The institute has promoted itself, claimed coordination with the federal ministry and state ministries through the so-called General Directorate of E-Learning, and held online exams for various school grades, including the sixth grade and third intermediate grade.

The institute allegedly claimed that these exams were administered by education departments in the River Nile State at times, and in the Red Sea State at other times.

The committee stated that after these exams were conducted and parents requested certificates, the institute began stalling, claiming there were issues with the federal and state ministries’ departments. It even issued some certificates to create a false impression of legitimacy.

Upon contacting the federal ministry, it was confirmed that no department called the “General Directorate of E-Learning” exists within the Ministry of Education’s structure. Furthermore, electronic exams are an unrecognized practice, and no official decision has been issued to adopt them as a reference. If such adoption were to occur, the ministry would be required to issue a formal decision with clear regulations and references — something that has not happened.
