The emergency room in the town of Shangil Tobaya, North Darfur State, reported 6 deaths and 58 infections from measles, which has been spreading widely in the town in recent days.
The Statistics and Information Center of the emergency room said in a statement that “measles has spread alarmingly following a comprehensive field survey and based on hospitalized cases.”
The Shangil Tobaya Emergency Room appealed to all humanitarian organizations, relevant health authorities, and donors to urgently intervene by providing logistical support, breaking the chain of infection before it claims more lives, supplying medicines and medical equipment, supporting healthcare workers, containing the outbreak, and saving lives—especially those of children.
Most towns and areas in the Darfur and Kordofan regions have recently witnessed a widespread outbreak of measles, including Labdo in East Darfur and Kalimando in North Darfur.
