UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric expressed deep concern over the continued rapid spread of cholera across various parts of Sudan, particularly in the Darfur region.
Dujarric said that UN health partners recorded 40 cholera-related deaths in the region just last week.
He added that partners have treated more than 2,300 patients in facilities managed by the Ministry of Health, stressing that the cholera treatment center in Tawila locality is overcrowded with patients.
He also recalled that last month, UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher allocated $5 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) to support cholera response efforts in Sudan, warning that more resources are urgently needed.
Dujarric stated that humanitarian partners require $50 million to sustain cholera response operations through the end of 2025.
