Flash Floods Threaten Sudanese States as Authorities Issue Warnings to Residents
Reports – Mashawir

The Sudanese Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources has warned of the likelihood of flash floods of varying intensity—ranging from moderate to high risk—across several states between August 21 and 23.
The states at risk include Red Sea, North Darfur, and Central Darfur, with estimates suggesting that thousands of residents could be affected by these natural hazards.
According to the ministry, the Red Sea State may experience moderate-risk floods, particularly in the eastern parts of Haiya town and central Halaib locality in the north of the state, with 11 sites expected to be affected. There is also a risk of moderate flash floods in areas north and west of Zalingei in Central Darfur, as well as in locations near the border triangle linking the state with North and West Darfur.
The ministry described the situation in North Darfur as extremely dangerous, warning of high-impact floods in several localities, including Al-Malha, Mellit, Kutum, Saraf Omra, El Fasher, Tawila, and Dar Al-Salam, along with areas of Kulka and the southern and western outskirts of other localities.
The Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources urged local communities in the affected areas to exercise maximum caution, avoid movement in low-lying or flood-prone areas, and prepare for immediate evacuation should the situation deteriorate.
