Donkeys … The Only Means to Deliver Aid to Affected Families in the Stricken Village of Tarsin
Follow-ups – Mashawir

With many rugged roads in the devastated village of Tarsin still blocked by landslides, UNICEF aid workers found no way to transport humanitarian assistance—food, medicine, and tarpaulins—except by resorting to primitive means.
They used donkeys to carry supplies to residents in the disaster-hit area, which is inaccessible by vehicles. The arduous journey for UNICEF’s emergency team took eight hours.
Ordinary villagers also helped by transporting and delivering much of the aid that reached the mountain villages, using pack animals.
The rough terrain and damaged roads have made the response incomplete.
Aid workers continue to face challenges in reaching the stricken village in the Darfur region.
The village, located east of Jebel Marra, has turned into a mass grave after the massive landslide swept it away, killing more than 1,000 people. Only one man survived, becoming the sole witness to the loss of his family, neighbors, and fellow villagers.
