The state of Gedaref witnessed a new natural disaster as the Rahad River overflowed into the village of Wad Al-Sha’er, inundating vast areas of homes and farmland amid growing fears of worsening humanitarian conditions in the region.
In response, the Gedaref State Emergency Administration dispatched a convoy carrying tents and some food supplies to those affected by the flood.
Engineer Jaber Babiker, head of the Emergency Committee, said the committee held an emergency meeting and remains in continuous session to monitor the situation.
He noted that families from the disaster-stricken area have been relocated to schools and stressed the importance of collective efforts to confront the challenges of the rainy season, floods, and torrents that have struck the Rahad area, with Hawata as its center.
