The massacre at the Abu Shouk Camp Mosque in El Fasher has provoked angry reactions across Darfur and Sudan.
Although the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have not issued an official statement, their platforms published a brief comment by the group’s leader’s adviser, Basha Tibiq, who described reports of the mosque attack as “cheap propaganda to cover up the defeats of the army and its allies.”
The Transitional Sovereignty Council condemned the targeting of the mosque, calling it a crime that “shames the conscience of humanity.”
The Government of Sudan also denounced the attack, describing it as a crime that represents a flagrant violation of all religious norms and international conventions that protect places of worship and civilians.
Sudanese Prime Minister Kamil Idris characterized the drone strike on the mosque as a war crime and a barbaric act that falls under crimes against humanity and ethnically motivated violations, aimed at demographic change through a policy of siege and starvation.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the RSF’s persistence in committing such terrorist crimes is “a direct result of the international community’s leniency toward its unprecedented crimes, and its disregard for the group’s contempt for international legitimacy—particularly UN Security Council Resolution 2736 of June last year, which demanded an end to the siege of El Fasher and a halt to attacks on the city.”
