Britain and 16 International Partners Express Concern Over Situation in El Fasher, Sudan

Mashawir – Reports

The British Embassy in Sudan announced that the United Kingdom hosted an urgent briefing with 16 international partners to discuss the situation in the city of El Fasher, located in Sudan’s Darfur region. All participants expressed deep concern over the “horrific situation” unfolding in the city.

According to a statement issued by the British Embassy, civilians in El Fasher are facing unimaginable violence, grave human rights abuses, and dire humanitarian conditions as hostilities continue.

The statement said participants at the urgent briefing urged all warring parties—particularly the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)—to implement a humanitarian cease-fire in El Fasher and comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2736, which calls on the RSF to lift the siege on the city and demands an immediate cessation of hostilities and de-escalation in and around El Fasher, according to the United Nations.

“We strongly condemn all violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law, as well as war crimes committed by the warring parties,” the statement read. “All armed actors are responsible for their conduct, and we urge them to honor their obligations and commitments under the Jeddah Declaration.”

The embassy reiterated support for negotiations between the warring sides to achieve a nationwide permanent cease-fire and to protect civilian lives.

It further stressed that the Sudanese people must determine their own political future through a genuine, transparent, and credible transition process led and owned by Sudanese themselves.
