United Nations Renews Call to End the War in Sudan and Allow Humanitarian Access

Mashaweer – Report

The UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Denise Brown, has renewed her call for an immediate end to the war and for unhindered humanitarian access, particularly to the besieged city of El-Fasher.

During her visit yesterday to Tawila, in North Darfur, which currently shelters around 600,000 displaced people who fled from El-Fasher, nearby areas, and Khartoum, Brown described the town as “the epicenter of the humanitarian crisis.”

She highlighted the extreme difficulty of reaching Tawila, noting that her journey took five days and required crossing three countries, due to the multiple frontlines now dividing Sudan.

Brown stressed that the crisis is not confined to Darfur and El-Fasher alone. She urged the international community to keep Kordofan in focus, where supply routes are blocked, food prices have skyrocketed, and humanitarian space is shrinking because aid organizations are unable to operate or deliver assistance.

She also pointed out that, although Sudan’s humanitarian response plan is one of the most heavily funded globally, the actual response coverage remains at only 25 percent, reflecting the enormous gap between needs and available resources.
