The United Nations Human Rights Council is expected to vote next week on a draft resolution calling for a full, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire in Sudan.
The proposal also envisions the creation of an independent international monitoring mechanism to oversee the implementation of the resolution, the rehabilitation of vital infrastructure, and efforts to reach a negotiated and peaceful solution to the conflict, leading to a credible and inclusive civilian-led political transition.
According to diplomatic sources, the draft text highlights the serious violations committed against civilians during the ongoing war in Sudan — including war crimes and crimes against humanity — which warrant referral to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The draft further emphasizes the need to hold those responsible accountable.
