City 12 in Sudan’s Blue Nile Region is experiencing a new wave of displacement involving both local residents and people who had previously been living in shelters, amid deteriorating security conditions and growing threats to civilians.
The displaced people have dispersed to several areas, including Shaira, Abu Qami and Al-Hilla Al-Qadima, as well as areas in Wad Al-Mahi locality to the east. Others have moved to displacement shelters in Damazin.
According to Mohamed Abdel Karim, a member of the Blue Nile Emergency Room, who spoke to Mashaweer, initial estimates indicate that the number of displaced people is approaching 20,000, including families, children, women and elderly people. They urgently need shelter materials, food, drinking water, healthcare services and protection supplies.
The Qeissan Emergency Room appealed to humanitarian and relief organizations, as well as local and international actors, to accelerate their response to the growing needs of displaced people and work to mitigate the humanitarian and health consequences of displacement, particularly as the rainy season continues.
Meanwhile, Blue Nile volunteer activist Saber Hassan told Mashaweer that relevant authorities should strengthen coordination and provide essential supplies to displaced families to ensure minimum standards of dignified living and protect the most vulnerable groups from the risks associated with displacement and deteriorating humanitarian conditions.
