Mossad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the U.S. President for Arab and African Affairs, stated that the Muslim Brotherhood and supporters of Sudan’s former regime are a “red line” for the United States, emphasizing that Washington will not accept their return to prominence in Sudan’s future.
In an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat, Boulos highlighted the major step that took place last week in Washington, where delegations from both warring parties — the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces — met to narrow their differences, describing it as a positive move toward ending the war.
However, he stressed that the recent events in El Fasher have overshadowed these developments and expressed concern about signs of fragmentation or possible division of Sudan as a result of these incidents.
Boulos confirmed that the U.S. has maintained continuous communication with both sides of the conflict for years, aiming to reach a humanitarian truce or a ceasefire, and that proposals for a resolution have been presented and are currently under consideration by the parties.
He further noted that the United States does not support the inclusion of any group linked to the warring factions or to remnants of the former regime in Sudan’s future political landscape, while emphasizing that the final decision rests with the Sudanese people themselves, and underscoring the importance of a Sudanese–Sudanese dialogue.
