The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has warned that Sudan’s humanitarian crisis has worsened in 2026, with approximately 33.7 million people in need of humanitarian assistance, making it one of the world’s most severe humanitarian emergencies.
OCHA noted that the gap between humanitarian needs and the response continues to widen. Only 1.7 million people—about 16% of the targeted beneficiaries—have received multi-sector humanitarian assistance. Relief efforts have continued to prioritize the areas most severely affected despite ongoing security constraints, limited humanitarian access, and critical funding shortages.
The UN agency also confirmed that humanitarian partners continue to seek $2.9 billion in funding to deliver life-saving assistance to approximately 20.4 million people across Sudan.
