UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher announced on Thursday the allocation of $20 million to provide life-saving assistance in Sudan, including food, healthcare, and other essential aid.
In a post on X, Fletcher called for an immediate end to the violence in Sudan, stressing the need to ensure urgent humanitarian access and to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
The war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) erupted in April 2023 amid a power struggle during a transitional period that was intended to lead to democratic elections and a return to civilian rule.
The conflict has displaced millions of Sudanese and left more than half of the population suffering from hunger and disease.
