The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in cooperation with health authorities and partners, has launched a catch-up vaccination campaign targeting six million children across the Darfur states. The campaign comes after the return of measles and other vaccine-preventable diseases due to widening immunity gaps.
The Darfur Network team warned of serious consequences following the recording of more than 3,000 measles cases in South and West Darfur within just three months, signaling a dangerous deterioration in health conditions and the rapid spread of epidemics in the region.
The statement pointed to disruptions in vaccine delivery and restrictions imposed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Darfur, which have hindered immunization campaigns and led to rising infection rates, especially among children.
