Malnutrition Reaches Unprecedented Levels in Darfur

Follow-ups - Mashawir

A survey conducted last month by UNICEF and its partners in the localities of Tina, Ambaro, and Karnoi in North Darfur revealed dangerous levels of acute malnutrition. These figures significantly exceed the emergency thresholds of 15% set by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The organization estimates that more than 8,000 people have been displaced from villages in the Karnoi locality of North Darfur. Some have fled to other areas within the state, while others have crossed the border into Chad, as the food emergency continues to worsen.

Medical sources also revealed an increase in measles cases among children in several cities and regions across the province.

Hospitals and medical centers are currently suffering from a severe crisis regarding vaccines for adolescent immunizations.
