West Kordofan State is suffering from deteriorating security conditions, as citizens complain of repeated incidents of looting, assault, and crimes of mass forced disappearances targeting youth and travelers in the region by “Rapid Support Forces” (RSF) gunmen.
Dar Hamar Emergency Room indicated that the RSF detained thousands of young men and travelers on the Wad Banda, Eyal Bakhit road, before forcibly and humiliatingly transporting them to the city of El Nahud. There, they joined other citizens who had previously been detained under mysterious circumstances and an unknown fate.
The Emergency Room expressed its concern over the continuation of these violations and questioned the fate of the large numbers of abductees who are being taken to unknown locations.
It described what is happening as a “silent execution” and “mass kidnapping,”holding the RSF leadership fully responsible for the safety of the abductees. The group demanded the immediate disclosure of their fate and the release of those deported to El Nahud, while calling on human rights organizations to take urgent action to inspect gravesites and secret detention centers.
On January 10th, the Emergency Room had accused the RSF of setting up checkpoints and launching a campaign of arrests targeting a number of young men in the Wad Banda locality of West Kordofan State, while they were passing through the area on their way to traditional mining sites.
