UNICEF spokesperson in Sudan, Eva Hinds, stated that the total number of children currently out of school in Sudan has reached 8 million.
She noted that 5 million children have been forced to flee their homes, causing them to lose contact with their teachers and educational materials.
Hinds explained that 6,400 schools are currently completely closed and are not providing any educational services.
Furthermore, she pointed out that 11% of schools are being used as emergency shelters for displaced families or for other non-educational purposes.
She added, “One out of every three schools has become unusable due to destruction or damage resulting from the war.”
