Sudan Health Ministry: Rising Epidemic Rates in Khartoum

The Ministry of Health in Khartoum State has announced an increase in epidemic rates and childhood diseases across the state’s seven localities, amid numerous challenges caused by the impact of war on the healthcare system.

During a meeting on Tuesday, chaired by the Director of Emergency and Epidemics, Mohamed Al-Tijani, the Emergency Operations Center reported that the epidemiological report for the sixth week of 2026 recorded:

* 10,361 cases of Malaria.

* 467 cases of Dengue Fever.

* 52 cases of Scabies (concentrated in the Karari and East Nile localities).

* 52 cases of animal bites.

The statement added that there is an uptick in childhood illnesses, such as coughing and measles. Meanwhile, the immunization department’s report revealed a shortage in the vaccine cold chain due to systematic looting and sabotage of health centers by militias.

The Director of Emergency and Epidemics confirmed the Ministry’s intention to increase rapid response efforts during the month of Ramadan. This plan includes scaling up investigation and detection of epidemics and mplementing training for staff on taking samples to detect Meningitis.

He emphasized the vital importance of integration and teamwork across departments to confront all epidemics and diseases.
