33 killed in drone strikes on two markets in Sudan

Abu Zabad - Mashaweer

Drone strikes on two markets in towns controlled by the Rapid Support Forces in southwestern Sudan resulted in the deaths of at least 33 people, a medical source told Agence France-Presse (AFP) today, Sunday.

Two drones bombed the markets of Abu Zabad and Wad Banda in West Kordofan state on Saturday, according to a medical source at Abu Zabad hospital who spoke to AFP via WhatsApp on the condition of anonymity.

The doctor at the hospital, which is one of the few health facilities still operating in the region, said: 33 people were killed yesterday and 59 were injured, 30 of whom are still receiving treatment at the hospital amid a severe shortage of medicines and medical equipment.

Clashes and drone strikes had already resulted in the deaths of 51 people last Wednesday and Thursday in the strategic Kordofan region of central Sudan, which is among the most violent front lines between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, according to local medical sources speaking to AFP.

The city of Dilling in South Kordofan state was also subjected to artillery shelling and drone strikes last Thursday, according to sources in the city.

A medical source at the local hospital reported that 28 people were killed and 60 others were injured in strikes targeting the city, including children and women.
