Second Senior Field Commander Defects from RSF in Less Than a Month

Khartoum – Mashawir

In the second defection by a prominent field commander from Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) within less than a month, Brigadier General Ali Rizqallah, widely known as “Al-Safana,” announced his split from the RSF without aligning himself with any armed faction.

Al-Safana appeared in a video clip widely circulated on social media platforms, officially declaring his defection from the RSF and expressing his support for “the will of the Sudanese people,” as he described it. He said: “We are not advocates of war; we seek peace and stability.”

During the video statement, the defecting commander repeatedly stressed that, as of today (Monday), he no longer belongs to the RSF or any other party, in an apparent reference to the Sudanese army.

Earlier, Al-Safana had denied reports claiming he was about to join the forces of General Al-Nur Ahmed Adam, known as “Al-Nur Al-Quba,” who defected from the RSF and joined the army in April. The two men come from the same community in North Darfur, western Sudan.
