Sudan’s Ministry of Finance and the African Development Bank Group have signed an agreement for the Strengthening Agricultural and Food Systems Resilience Project in Sudan, valued at US$83 million, on the sidelines of the Bank’s annual meetings currently being held in Brazzaville.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, Finance Minister Gibril Ibrahim met with Sidi Ould Tah, President of the African Development Bank Group. The two sides discussed support for Sudan’s reconstruction efforts as well as strengthening the country’s agricultural sector and food security.
The statement noted that the meetings witnessed the signing of the US$83 million Agricultural and Food Systems Resilience Project Agreement.
The project, which was approved on 22 April, aims to increase food production and availability while creating agribusiness employment opportunities for women and young people across Sudan.
Implementation will focus on several key agricultural regions, including the states of Blue Nile State, Sennar State, and Kassala State. These areas host large numbers of displaced people and are considered vital to the country’s national food production.
More than 1.2 million people are expected to benefit from the project, including over 232,000 farming households, with particular emphasis on supporting women and youth.
